Reverend Father Peter Cruz Jesus Raposo, 43, a Catholic priest of the Society of the Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier, died suddenly on Friday, March 13, 2015. He was born on May 23, 1971, to Manuel and Joana Arcanja (Fernandes) Raposo. Fr. Peter was ordained on April 25, 1998 in India.
Fr. Peter served in the Parish of the Holy Cross, Juhu, in the Archdiocese of Bombay. He was selected to be the Editor of the "Vauraddeamcho Ixtt" (Friends of the Workers), and also served as an efficient Secretary to Cardinal Telesphore Toppo, the Archbishop of Ranchi. His handling of this post as Secretary drew great admiration from the Cardinal and the whole Archdiocese.
He had completed his Masters in Mass Communications at De Paul University in Chicago, Illinois and was pursuing his Doctoral Studies at Ohio University since 2012.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Fr. Peter was a lover of fine arts. He was a good musician, and had a love of good films. He was also a good sportsman and played soccer, tennis, and racquetball excellently. Always a gentleman, he will be remembered as a fine priest and scholar.
The body of Fr. Peter will be received at St. Paul Church in Athens on Tuesday evening at 6:00 P.M. Solemn Vespers for the Dead will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. The church will be open to receive visitors paying their respects from 8:00 P.M. - 10:00 P.M.
The church will open on Wednesday at 9:00 A.M. for visitors to pray and pay their respects. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3:00 P.M. Because of seating limitations, the funeral Mass will be open to parishioners of the Athens Catholic Community and students who regularly worship in these churches.
A general Memorial Service for Fr. Peter will be held on Monday, March 30, at 7:00 P.M. at St. Paul Church.
