DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE IN HONOR OF THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY PATRONESS OF THE DIOCESE OF STEUBENVILLE SATURDAY, JUNE 28, 2014 THE BASILICA OF SAINT MARY OF THE ASSUMPTION MARIETTA, OHIO
Parishes throughout the Diocese are encouraged to make a pilgrimage to the
Basilica for the celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the
Patroness of the Diocese of Steubenville. Confessions will be heard from 8:30 - 9:30 A.M. Mass will be offered by Bishop Jeffrey Monforton at 10:00 A.M. A continental breakfast in the Basilica Social Hall will follow the Mass, and tours of the Basilica will be offered throughout the morning.
One of the privileges of a Basilica is the granting of a plenary indulgence on seven feast days throughout the year. This Feast was chosen by Bishop Monforton as one of these special feast days. Those who visit the Basilica on pilgrimage this day, and are properly disposed, can receive a plenary indulgence under the usual conditions:
1) Sacramental Confession within 7 days prior to or following the day the indulgence is sought;
2) Reception of Holy Communion, preferably on the day the indulgence is sought;
3) Prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father on the day the indulgence is sought (one Our Father, one Hail Mary and one Glory Be to the Father).
